Artist: Thomas Fitzgerald
Artist Statement:

Mr. Fitzgerald is a retired, 73 year old grandfather and long-time resident of the 2100 block of Mount Vernon Street.  With more time on his hands he has returned to his first love, painting and is producing some of the landscapes that he loves.

Tom and his wife travel a bit, so his paintings tend to be of the places they have been, the Dominican Republic, Ireland, Scotland, Alaska, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Spain, France, Germany, Austria, and the southwestern U.S.

In the mid-‘50’s Tom was employed in N.Y.C. as a technical illustrator while attending the School of Visual Arts in the evening.  At the time the school was known as the Cartoonist & Illustrator’s School (C & I).  He majored in illustration.

By the mid-60’s he was married, with three children, had had switched careers and relocated to the Philadelphia.

By 1970 he was vice president of a large commercial real estate subsidiary but continued to attend art classes in the evenings, wherever and whenever he could.  He has studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Fleisher Memorial, and most recently, the Wallingford Community Arts Center.
